A-Z about the latest OnePlus flagship, the OnePlus 5

oneplus 5

The Chinese smartphone giant, OnePlus, which got its fame due to the
recent huge success of their cost effective devices updated their premium
flagship line with the release of the OnePlus 5 on June 20th, 2017.
The much-awaited flagship device was since reviewed by all of the famous
YouTubers as well as by the fan base who bought the devices. The reviews
were pretty good, and there were even allegations from sources such as the
XDA Developers that the company is cheating on the benchmarks apps such
as Antutu and Androbench. The company faced the rage of the community
for going to such steep levels to sell a product.
Despite all of this, the device was well welcomed and has sold a significant
number of pieces already. The company even claimed in twitter that the
OnePlus 5 is now the highest grossing phone in the launch week in the history
of Amazon India, and that’s a big thing. But for some reasons, they did not
release those numbers.

But is all the hype worth it? Is it a good device to spent your money on?
Here’s all you need to know about the device that everyone calls the iPhone
killer of the year:

1. Display

The display is the foremost thing everyone discusses a device
since it is the part we use to interact with the device. The OnePlus 5
has a 5.5 inches Optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, having a Full
HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels along with a 401 ppi pixel density.
Yes, it is the very same display we saw in the famous OnePlus 3T.
The Multitouch screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. This

will protect your screen in most conditions except water and dust.
Sadly enough, the device is neither waterproof nor dustproof. That’s a
big letdown, considering all of the other devices in the price range has
an IP certification.

While the display is not bad and does its job well, there are several
users who are unhappy with it. One reported issue with the screen is
the “Jelly scrolling effect”, which means that the movement of some
objects on the screen does not sync with the action of others
while scrolling. OnePlus claims it is natural and XDA devs claim it is
caused by the inverted display that OnePlus used in the device to
make room for the dual camera module.

2. Processor and RAM

The device runs on the latest octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
Which is clocked at 2.45 GHz? It also has an Adreno 540 GPU for
gaming. The processor is pretty advanced and can take up multi
tasking pretty well. To match the processing power, the company has
added a whopping 8GB RAM in the higher variant, and you will find a
6GB RAM in the cheaper variant. If you love gaming on your phone
download Game Killer app.

Multitasking and power intensive tasks such as heavy gaming is thus
an easy job for the OnePlus 5, owing to such specs.

3. Camera

The camera is the primary selling point of the device. OnePlus has
always been known for having an excellent camera module. This time
around, the camera module is a dual camera having a primary camera

of 16 MP, f/1.7 and a secondary camera of 20 MP, f/2.6. The
secondary camera makes zooming better and helps in depth
perception. We saw the Dual camera first in the iPhone 7. After that
several manufacturers adapted that and OnePlus is one of them. Even
the back side of the both devices look the same, and the company
received a lot of criticism for copying the design from Apple.
Despite all of that, the camera works exceptionally, and the images
come out great thanks to the dual camera technology. For taking
selfies, the device has a front camera of 16MP and f/2.0.

4. Battery

The device has a Non-removable 3300 mAh battery. We do have Dash
Charging in this device thanks to the Snapdragon 835. Test results
suggest that the device gets fully charged in about 1.5 Hours and has
an average lifetime of 9 hours 18 mins on normal usage and at indoor
brightness levels. That is an excellent battery backup.

5. Variants and Price

The flagship is released in two variants: One with 6GB of RAM and
64GB of storage priced at Rs 32999 and a higher-end variant having 8
GB of RAM and 128GB of storage that costs Rs 37999. Both the
options are available in Open Sale in Amazon India since the company
gave the axe to the invite system last year.
